Cold-Mageddon-January 30, 2019

January 30, 2019

We like living in the Midwest for the variety of the seasons. Each season offers differing photo opportunities.

All week the weather people have been forecasting a Polar Vortex bringing sub-zero temperatures and dangerous wind chills. Today dawned at -23℉ with a wind chill around -50˚! Schools and businesses are closed, the commuter railway is shut down, and even some postal regions have cancelled mail delivery. Everyone says “do not go outside!”

But as a photographer, we don’t let anything stand in the way of getting our images! Some of them I was able to get from the warmth of inside the house. The image above is the frost on the inside of our kitchen window. I was able to use the Macro lens for the close up and photographed the frost using the blue sky as the background.

I tried blowing bubbles-they froze but the strong wind popped them too quickly. I also had to try throwing boiling water into the air.

Click below to see some of the images I captured.
